Leucocyte Membrane Determinants Regulating Immune Reactivity

چکیده
per hour elevates serum ascorbate from about 1 mg/dl to a maximum of 4 mg/dl. Again, the physiological significance of Lewin's observation is questionable. After stress or ACTH secretion, adrenocorticosteroid secretion is associated with decreased adrenal cholesterol and ascorbate. From this finding, Lewin hypothesizes that vitamin C plays an important role in the synthesis of adrenal steroids. He does not, however, satisfactorily address the observations that adrenocorticosteroid secretion is normal in scorbutic individuals and that steroid secretion in perfused adrenal glands is not affected by the concentration of vitamin C in the perfusate. One should look elsewhere for a critical review of the biological actions and potential medical value of vitamin C. Eiuc J. NESTLER Medical Student Yale University School ofMedicine

Vascular and epithelial junctions: a barrier for leucocyte migration.
Rapid mobilization of leucocytes through endothelial and epithelial barriers is key in immune system reactivity. The underlying mechanisms that regulate these processes have been the basis for many recent studies. Traditionally, leucocyte extravasation had been believed to occur through a paracellular route, which involves localized disruption of endothelial cell junctions. However, more recent...
متن کاملTransfer factor--current status and future prospects.
We have detected new clues to the composition and function of "Transfer Factor" using the direct Leucocyte Migration Inhibition (LMI) test as an in vitro assay of Dialysates of Leucocyte Extracts (DLE). This approach has revealed two opposing antigen-specific activities to be present in the same > 3500 < 12,000 DA dialysis fraction - one activity is possessed of Inducer/Helper function (Inducer...
متن کاملAstrocyte-leucocyte interactions and the mechanisms regulating matrix degradation in CNS tuberculosis.
The CNS (central nervous system) has a unique pattern of immune response to infection. TB (tuberculosis) of the CNS is devastating with widespread tissue destruction. In TB, astrocyte-leucocyte interactions are key in regulating MMP (matrix metalloproteinase) activity and are regulated by complex signalling pathways. A synergistic interaction between interferon gamma and monocyte-derived mediat...
متن کاملTetraspanins in the humoral immune response.
The tetraspanins represent a large superfamily of four-transmembrane proteins that are expressed on all nucleated cells. Tetraspanins play a prominent role in the organization of the plasma membrane by co-ordinating the spatial localization of transmembrane proteins and signalling molecules into 'tetraspanin microdomains'. In immune cells, tetraspanins interact with key leucocyte receptors [inc...
متن کاملCell-mediated immune reactivity in liver disease.
Cell-mediated immunity has been investigated using the leucocyte migration test in 32 patients with chronic active hepatitis or primary biliary cirrhosis. Twenty-six (75%) showed reactivity to liver extract. At least two antigens are involved. Cell-mediated reactivity was confirmed in some cases using lymphocyte ;blast' transformation. There was no correlation with the presence of auto-antibodi...
